Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How to type Japanese on the computer or tablet?

You need to install a Japanese keyboard on your device.

On PC you can install “Google Japanese IME” to type in Japanese on your computer. IME stands for Input Method Editor. You can download and install it from here: https://www.google.com/ime/ and if you need some more instructions on the process see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP0P5eifn2c

On Android you can add the Japanese keyboard by going to Settings > System > Languages and Input > Languages > + Add a language. A new “world” icon will appear on your on-screen keyboard and clicking it will switch between the different language keyboards that you have enabled.

I highly recommend to install Japanese language as you will be able send message in Japanese not romaji. Then you can click to switch from English to Japanese. For example, if you want to type [いく] in Hiragana, you can type “iku(romaji)” on your keyboard with Japanese mode. If you practice more, you will get used to it. Here are some tips on how to type certain characters that differ from regular romaji.「ぢ」 = “di” and 「づ」 = “du”. If you have any questions, how to type a certain word I can help you on Q and A section. But I can not help regarding technical issue such computer setting. It better to look up “Japanese typing” on google.

No problem! Tekuteku Nihongo School allows you to speed up or slow down the video to accommodate all learners. While you are watching the video, on the top right hand side of the screen, you will see flower shaped icon and if you click the icon you can choose play back speed. “1x”, which is the normal playback speed. Click on the icon and you can then adjust the speed up or down. If you listen multiple times by adjusting speed, hopefully you will able to listen my pronunciation. That's the good listening practice.
